Upright scissor lifts was created by Mr. Johnson – a mechanical engineer – from Berkeley, California. He first began to manufacture his own access equipment in 1946 when he could not find anything suitable to help him to paint his house. None of the scaffolding on the market at the time was able to handle the rough terrain around his home so he decided to build one of his own that had adjustable legs.
It did not take him long to learn how to market this equipment and to design more just like this. After only a few short years his company began to sell to every part of the world. In 1972 he made yet another success when he invented the first aerial scissor lift platform – which was fondly known as the “flying carpet”. It did not take long for people to see the advantages in this product.
Though Mr. Johnson is no longer alive his company, innovative designs, and new technology are still available. More and more scissor lifts are being created each year and sold to companies and small businesses around the world at an affordable price. Today they offer two different types; the slab scissor lifts and the rough terrain scissor lifts.
